“The workers’ representatives have now reported to the workforce on the outcome from the meeting in Hannover.
“There will be a ballot on Monday to decide on whether to accept the revised package now tabled by the company.
“We have to respect the workers’ prerogative in considering such a difficult issue which affects them and their families so much.
“Given the years and quality of service that they have given, many will be disappointed that a bigger improvement is not available.
“The union representatives have acknowledged their own disappointment that the revised terms from the company fall short of the sort of terms which were benchmarked against some other local packages.
“Having discussed the new terms with their union representatives, the workers facing redundancy after such good service will have to make their judgement not so much on the basis of what is acceptable but what is available.
“They and their families have to be afforded support and space as they contemplate their decision and what follows for them.”
