SDLP condemn Ballymulligan burglary

SDLP Deputy Leader, Patsy McGlone, has called on anyone with information about an aggravated burglary at a house on the Ballymulligan Road on Monday to contact the police immediately. The MLA for Mid Ulster was speaking after news that two men, one armed with a baseball bat, had entered the house, tied up the occupants and made off with a sum of money.

Mr McGlone said, “This is the latest in a number of crimes against the community that people in rural areas have been subjected to in recent weeks.  I urge anyone with any information about this burglary to contact the police immediately. “

Local SDLP Councillors Christine McFlynn and Mary Baker also condemned the burglary.

Cllr McFlynn said, “This must have been a terrifying ordeal for the family.  Those responsible are a danger to the community and must be caught and brought before the court as soon as possible.”

Cllr Baker added, “If local policing is to be seen to be successful then people must feel safe in their own homes in all areas.  Those responsible for terrorising this family in this way must be arrested and charged.”

Mr McGlone ended, “We will be seeking a meeting with local police to discuss what steps can be taken to protect others in rural areas from these thugs.”
