He said: “We are all naturally delighted in Portaferry for Ciara and indeed throughout Ards Borough where best wishes have been conveyed to me from all areas. The council has been keen to not only promote but also assist where possible Ciara in her quest to maximise her talent within the field of athletics.
“This is simply fantastic news that will greatly assist Ciara with future training programmes and where every eventuality can now be catered for, from travelling to the best venues throughout the world to train, to being able to acclimatize for competition purposes. She will also have at her disposal all the sports gear and equipment required for the challenges that she will encounter on her journey of fulfilling the dream of becoming a world class athlete.
“The sponsorship deal will run for three years with the option of a fourth year and comes on the back of a year where Ciara enjoyed great success winning the World Junior silver medal in Canada and is currently the Irish junior record holder in the 800m and 1500m, breaking records previously held for over twenty years by Irish Olympic silver medallist and world champion Sonia O’ Sullivan.
“This is a really exciting time for Ciara and I know I can speak for everyone in the community where we wish her all the very best for the future and in particular whenever she competes at the New Balance Games in New York on January 22.”
