Burns: Public Inquiry on incinerator proposal vital

SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns has repeated his call for a public inquiry into plans by Rose Energy to build a chicken litter incinerator in Glenavy saying that proper planning procedures must not be abandoned

Tue 16th March

He said: “It would be abhorrent for Rose Energy to build a huge incinerator in this Area of High Scenic Value without going through proper planning procedures.

“The reality is that a plant of this type belongs on an industrial site where water is not dumped into our Lough and the environment is not destroyed.

“The vast majority of local people are totally opposed to this project and it would be a travesty for this planning proposal to be granted without the public having their say.

“The proposed location for the incinerator is completely wrong and contrary to Rose Energy’s claims, their proposal does not meet all the planning criteria required of such a project.

“I repeat my call for a public inquiry so all the evidence can be examined in detail. This way everyone can have their views heard.”
