Byrne welcomes inquiry on unadopted roads

SDLP Regional Development spokesman Joe Byrne MLA has welcomed the decision of the Regional Development Committee to hold an inquiry into unadopted roads.

Wed 1st February

A consultation process is underway, with submissions due in before March 12th. The inquiry is expected to conclude on May 28th.

The West Tyrone MLA said: “I am very pleased to see the committee order this inquiry into an issue which plagues people all across the North.

“I have said before that people living in areas of incomplete development, where the Roads Service has not had to adopt the roadways involved, have often found themselves living in a twilight world where their street-lighting and sewerage facilities are poor at best, while governing forces fail to deal adequately with recalcitrant developers.

“I hope this inquiry will turn a spotlight on this problem and propose workable, sustainable solutions.

“I would encourage all those with an interest in this to take part in the consultation and I look forward to the inquiry’s report later in the year.”
