McCamphill rejects BNP anti-immigrant campaign

SDLP East Antrim representative Justin McCamphill has strongly attacked the BNP’s latest campaign against immigrants in Larne. They have attacked plans by the UK Border Agency to construct a 22-bed holding centre in the grounds of Larne PSNI station.

Thu 2nd September

Mr McCamphill said:  “The BNP are really scraping the barrel on this one. Would they rather that illegal immigrants were simply released at Larne Port, sent to Belfast or maybe they have another solution in mind?’”

“In reality we are talking about a small facility for 22 unfortunate human beings who have probably been exploited by traffickers or unscrupulous employers. these people need to be treated humanely and not be used as a political football by racist thugs.

“It is clear the BNP are running out of ideas in Larne, as well as members since their membership details were leaked (3 in East Antrim in 2009, 5 in 2007).  The people of Larne do not want the BNP, in fact they would be hard pushed to find 10 people to nominate a candidate for election. Maybe this is the reason why they failed to contest this year’s Westminster election.”
