Ritchie concern at eBay All-Ireland tickets

SDLP Leader and South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has appealed to people selling All-Ireland football final tickets on eBay at seven or eight times their face value to hand back the tickets to the GAA for redistribution to fans.

Wed 15th September

She said: “It is fair to say that spare tickets to Sunday’s All-Ireland final between Down and Cork are as rare as hen’s teeth.

“My own office in Downpatrick has been inundated with supporters of all ages trying to secure a golden ticket for the big game.

“I consider myself lucky to have a ticket but naturally many fans will be left disappointed.

“However, several supporters have alerted me to the availability of match tickets on eBay with some being sold for more than seven times their face value at a staggering £500.

“While the sellers are doing nothing illegal it strikes me this practice goes against the ethos of the GAA and a sense of fair play.

“The GAA have an effective distribution method allocating tickets to the participating counties and then clubs throughout the country.

“Given this is the showpiece occasion in the GAA calendar it would be right and proper than anybody in possession of tickets who cannot attend return them to their clubs for redistribution to the many fans eager to see the match.

“I would appeal to peoples’ better nature and ask them not to be selling tickets for such exorbitant prices.”
