Cllr Martin Reilly said: “Just as the families of those injured and killed on Bloody Sunday campaigned for years for the truth to be told about the events in Derry on that day, the families of those injured and killed in Ballymurphy are still campaigning for the truth to be told of what happened to their loved ones.
“The SDLP has repeatedly raised this issue on behalf of the Ballymurphy families. Alex Attwood MLA accompanied the families to meetings with the Secretary of State; Mark Durkan MP held a Westminster Hall debate last December and Party Leader Margaret Ritchie MP MLA referred to the Ballymurphy families during the Commons debate on the findings of the Saville Inquiry.
“The Ballymurphy families stood together with the Bloody Sunday families throughout their campaign for vindication. The march of truth through Ballymurphy, on Sunday 7th August at 1pm is one of the events remembering those dark days.
“Their call for an apology, an acknowledgement and an independent international investigation is compelling and we continue to support their plea for justice by supporting this motion.”
