Hanna condemns cruel South Belfast murder
The man’s partner and a nine-year-old child were in the property at the time.
She said: "I want to condemn, in the strongest possible terms, this vicious murder of a man in South Belfast last night. There has never been any place for this kind of shocking violence on the streets of our city.
“I’ve been to the scene on Walmer Street this morning where an entire community is absolutely in shock. This is a well-integrated area with families, young workers and new communities all living together in peace. No one could ever have anticipated that we’d be waking up to something like this.
“It’s extremely worrying that someone who would seek to hurt others like this has access to guns and is willing to commit such a violent act. I have no doubt that people in the area will cooperate with the police as they investigate what happened and attempt to catch the callous criminal responsible.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the man’s family and friends at this tragic time. This is a good community though and I know they’ll support them through this very difficult period.”
