Dallat questions Ford’s commitment to North West

SDLP East Derry MLA, John Dallat has questioned the Justice Minister’s commitment to the development of the North West. His comments came after David Ford revealed that Limavady Courthouse is one of the local courts earmarked for closure.

McDonnell: Ireland-London flights must be protected

SDLP Leader Dr Alasdair McDonnell MP has stressed the importance of flight connections between Ireland and Britain. Speaking during Northern Ireland Questions in Westminster and in light of the proposed IAG takeover of Aer Lingus, Dr McDonnell questioned whether the NI Secretary recognised the critical importance of these routes and asked if they would be protected should the takeover take place.

Dobbins: Sea walls to be shored up

SDLP Derry Councillor Angela Dobbins has welcomed a commitment by Transport Ni to "shore up" and maintain an eroded wall along a road leading to Culmore Fort. Transport NI said it would begin constructing a new riverfront wall along Culmore Point Road as soon as June.

Diver: Bloody Sunday window should be delivered, not deferred

SDLP Derry Councillor Gerard Diver has expressed his support that the new window commemorating Bloody Sunday should be installed at the Guildhall despite agreement not being reached on the final fourth panel of the window. Following consultation from the families of the deceased who objected to the fourth panel, Cllr Diver rejected a Sinn Fein proposal to defer the entire window and advocated a ‘blank canvas’ panel that can be decided in the future.

Bradley: Budget disastrous for Health and local government

SDLP Spokesperson for Finance and Personal Dominic Bradley warned that the revised Budget would increase rates in local governments. Speaking in the Assembly Chamber Mr Bradley also highlighted the lack of strategy in the Health Service.
