Dobbins welcomes opening of new Culmore Country Park

SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins has welcomed the opening of the newly-landscaped former Culmore landfill site – now known as Culmore Country Park – which opens to the public on 31 October.

Cllr Dobbins said: “This long awaited development is a very welcome boost to the local community.

“I was present at the initial consultation stage almost seven years ago and I’m delighted that it is now nearing completion.

“The new park has meandering walkways and landscaped areas which will be manned by a park ranger who will open and close the gates.

“Following the official opening, the park will now progress to another stage whereby the public will be consulted as to its further design – likely to be in February or March of next year.

“I therefore hope that the local community will make use of the new country park and while walking through it get a feel for what they would like to also see included.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Council officers and community activists in Culmore who have never given up hope of seeing this venture come to fruition.

“This is definitely a step in the right direction for much needed community facilities in the Culmore area and I am optimistic that more will follow."
