McAleer secures traffic calming measures for local school
Commenting after meeting with DfI Roads, Cllr McAleer said:
“The A5 is a road notorious for near misses, crashes and, unfortunately, road fatalities. I recently met with DfI roads and the principal of St Malachy’s Primary School, Glencull, which is situated on the road to discuss what immediate measures could be put in place to improve road safety.
“It’s simply unacceptable that parents, children and teachers are forced to run the gauntlet every day on their way to school. Without action, I have no doubt that we’d be dealing with serious injuries or worse here.
“I’m delighted that DfI roads have worked quickly to install new signage warning motorists about the school junction and urging them to reduce speed. We also now have new road markings highlighting the close proximity of the school.
“Hopefully this reduces the chances of collisions in the area. I will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that the safety of local children and parents is secured.”
