Tierney appeals for consideration following hydrant vandalism

SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has made an appeal for people not to interfere with street furniture such as fire hydrants. He was speaking after approximately 12 fire hydrants were set off in the Galliagh area of the city on Tuesday evening.

Councillor Tierney said “I have been contacted by a number of people who either had no or very low water pressure yesterday. After contacting NI Water I was informed that over 400 homes in the Galliagh area were experiencing the same issues.

“NI Water quickly dispatched engineers to investigate and it became clear that the hydrants had been set off. This not only caused distress to hundreds of local families but also lost 1000’s of litres of water.

"I would appeal to everyone not to interfere with street furniture as this may seem like a bit of fun at the time but we now have 100’s of families without water” Councillor Tierney concluded.
