Councillor Brian Heading has sat on Lisburn City Council since first being co-opted in 2004, and rose to the position of Mayor in 2011. He won a seat on the new Belfast supercouncil in the May 2014 local elections. He represents the Dunmurry Cross area.
During his year in office he promoted the Irish language, hosted a public meeting the Israel and Palestine Peace Process , introduced Council placements for the Long term unemployed highlighted disability, fuel poverty and special needs education.
He was Chair of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee from 2007- 2009 and led on negotiations to obtain a long term lease for Playing Pitch for the St Patricks GAA club. He also sat on the Economic Development Committee.
Brian sees economic recovery job creation ,improvements in Educational and Community infrastructure including improvements to the local environment in the Colin area and district as the number one priority for the area. Cllr Heading also has a strong focus on the promotion of credit union membership, sustainable planning and lobbies tirelessly to keep health service resources intact.
