Durkan calls for world-class one-year cancer survival rates

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has taken up a new role as Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer (APPGC) at Westminster, and is calling for improving one-year cancer survival rates in Derry and throughout the North. By 2020, almost half of the UK population will receive a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime. However, cancer survival rates in the North and Britain are among the worst in Europe – not least because many people are diagnosed too late. The APPGC believes that this must change.

McGlone: Mid-Ulster reps meet Taoiseach on Brexit, collusion and internet safety

SDLP Mid-Ulster representatives have met with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to discuss problems that would arise from a UK referendum on EU membership as well as issues stemming from collusion. At a meeting in Government Buildings, Patsy McGlone MLA and Dungannon Councillor Denise Mullan also discussed with Senator Loraine Higgins the tragic death of Ronan Hughes and her internet safety bill that is currently going through the Seanad.

McKillop welcomes upgrade to mobile phone base stations

SDLP Glens Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop has pledged to work closely with planners, local communities and Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Ltd to reach agreement on suitable locations for new base stations in Ballycastle and the Glens of Antrim. Cllr McKillop said that the new stations will bring significant improvements to the mobile phone network.
