Attwood concern at proposed Falls depot job losses

SDLP West Belfast councillor Tim Attwood has raised serious concerns about the proposed job losses at the Falls Road Bus Depot. It has been reported 70 workers may lose their jobs or be redeployed from the depot.

Thu 12th August

Mr Attwood stated: "I visited the bus depot today (Thursday) and spoke to a number of the workers who are stunned by this announcement. The SDLP has serious concerns about the equity and fairness about the proposed job losses at the Falls Depot. It is important that Translink spell out in detail the rationale and business case for these proposed job losses.

"The SDLP will be meeting the trade union and is seeking meetings with Translink Chief Executive Catherine Mason and DRD Minister Conor Murphy.

“In April 2009, during discussions with Translink about 75 losses in Ulsterbus, Metro and Translink services, the DRD Minister said the numbers would be reduced through natural wastage rather than through compulsory redundancy. The SDLP wants to seek reassurances from Translink and the Minister that this is the case now and for any future proposed job reductions."
