Bradley: Right decision on Kingsmills march

SDLP Newry and Armagh MLA Dominic Bradley has welcomed the news that the proposed parade through Whitecross on Saturday 25th February has been called off.

Commenting on the news, Mr Bradley said: "This parade was ill-judged from the beginning in the proposal to march 11 bands and 600 people through the village of Whitecross without prior consultation with the local community.

"I would like to pay tribute to the people from both sides of the community in the Whitecross area who adopted a mature attitude and helped to ensure that good counsel prevailed.

"Community relations in the area have been improving over the years and anything which threatened that continued improvement was viewed by people with concern.

"I hope now that life in the area can continue in a spirit of community harmony without disruption."
