Burns congratulates European Ryder Cup team

SDLP Sports spokesman Thomas Burns has congratulated the European Ryder Cup team on their victory over the USA at Celtic Manor.

The South Antrim MLA said: “I am delighted that Europe has regained the Ryder Cup especially given the influential role played by the Irish players in that triumph. I offer them my sincerest congratulations.

 

“Graeme McDowell showed a steely nerve and great ability to seal the victory in nerve wrecking circumstances, while Rory McIlroy’s prodigious talent and stroke making was a joy to behold throughout. In addition, Padraig Harrington’s experience was crucial as was the influence of Darren Clarke as a vice-captain. We should all be very proud of their contributions.

 

“It is great to see Irish sports stars performing at the very highest level. This should act as the perfect incentive for youngsters to get actively involved in sport.”
