The West Tyrone MLA was speaking after a Regional Development Committee visit to Gilnahirk Primary School, which has been an avid supporter of ‘Bike It’
He said: “In the draft programme for government, a target of 36% of all primary school pupils and 22% of those in secondary education walking or cycling to school was set.
“It makes perfect sense – cycling to school helps keep our children active, which in turn combats childhood obesity, and it reduces the number of cars on our roads.
“So I encourage children across the whole of the North to follow the great example of those in Gilnahirk and get on their bike.”
