Clifford condemns Creggan pipebomb attacks

SDLP Derry City Councillor Jim Clifford has condemned the weekend’s attacks in Creggan which saw two pipe bombs thrown into cars in Circular Road and Iniscairn Crescent as well as subsequent rioting in the area.

Mon 7th December

The Creggan councillor said:

"I strongly condemn these pipe bomb attacks which, if they had exploded, could have killed or seriously injured someone.

"I also strongly condemn the rioting which took place afterwards. Parents must do more to know the whereabouts of their children – especially when they are out at such a late time of night.

"These attacks are a return to the bad old days and unfortunately some people seem to want to take us back to those bad old days.

"We in the SDLP have spoken out against violence for many, many years.

"We don’t need this and we don’t want this. The people of Creggan certainly don’t want this.

"If anybody knows anything about these attacks they should contact the police immediately."
