Clifford hopeful for Creggan housing improvement works

SDLP Councillor Jim Clifford has commended Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie for granting a further £6 million to social housing maintenance programmes this week – and has said he hopes the additional money will ensure the refurbishment of Rinmore Drive and essential improvement works to be carried out in other parts of Creggan.

Fri 27th November

He said:

"I hope that this additional money will be spent in the refurbishment of the long-awaited Rinmore Drive and other parts of Creggan.

"This has caused severe hardship for the people living under these conditions – especially when they see that their neighbours have already been refurbished.

"After their neighbours were refurbished the Housing Executive informed Rinmore residents that the money had run out.

"I am now calling on the Housing Executive to prioritise these houses and for the essential improvement works to be carried out as soon as possible.

"This additional funding will be welcomed by those awaiting kitchen replacements and new heating systems throughout Derry, particularly as the cold winter months set in.

"It will also keep local trades’ workers in secure employment. Indeed, this will be a huge relief to these workers and their families particularly in the run up to Christmas."
