DeFaoite: Extra flights, extra headache for local residents

SDLP East Belfast council candidate Séamas de Faoite has said the announcement of extra flights out of Belfast City Airport is bad news for the people of East Belfast who have to put up with air traffic and noise pollution.

Wed 13th April

“There is concern that this announcement will lead to further problems for the people of East Belfast.

“The SDLP’s in favour of the current number of flights in and out of Belfast City Airport and any add to that will have a detrimental effect on the lives of local people living in close proximity. This is especially true given that the majority of these new flights will be during the day.

“The anger of local residents regarding the airport is a recurring concern we are hearing at the moment.

“My party colleague Alasdair McDonnell has continually called for an aviation strategy and I back that. The SDLP helped gain a commitment from the minister that there will be a public inquiry into the proposed runway extension at the city airport and we fully intend to support the residents.

“It’s essential that our three airports in the north have a strategy and that announcements are not made on an ad hoc basis.”
