Durkan defends Derry BSO jobs

SDLP Foyle MLA and Health Committee member Mark H Durkan has said the Department of Health’s consultation process into Business Service Organisation (BSO) jobs in Derry is flawed and must be addressed by the Health Minister.

Thu 26th January

Mr Durkan met with staff and Departmental officials at Altnagelvin Hospital on Tuesday evening and raised the issue at the Assembly’s Health Committee on Wednesday.

He said: “Tuesday’s meeting at Altnagelvin throws up more questions than it does answers. The Departmental officials brought proposals here and were unable to substantiate virtually anything they said.

“It is unbelievable that they are asking workers here to make decisions about their futures without any concrete guarantees or answers.

“It is my belief that not only is the consultation process itself flawed but that the figures upon which the proposed locations for the new 'centres of excellence' were decided are open to interpretation.

“This shoddy approach suggests that there is an attempt to just rush these changes through. The SDLP will be opposing these proposals and defending jobs in Derry.”
