Durkan: Successful marketing plan key to optimizing Kelvin

Foyle MP Mark Durkan has said that if Derry is to maximise its opportunity from Project Kelvin that it will mean building a successful marketing plan around the project.

Mon 30th November

Speaking after attending last

week’s "Monetizing Kelvin" event which linked the Magee campus of the University of Ulster with the NI Science Park in Belfast to discuss how Northern Ireland can best leverage Project Kelvin to create local jobs and drive wealth throughout the region, Mr Durkan said:realise the maximum benefits of Project Kelvin – not least in terms of local jobs.

"I have written to both Ilex and Invest NI about the need to have a productive marketing plan for Derry on the back of Project Kelvin.

"I have also discussed this with the Chief Executive of Invest NI and have highlighted it at meetings of our local Strategy Board.

"This successful event – and hopefully further information sessions – come at an important time for local businesses as they work their way through this downturn and make plans to capitalise on the economic recovery when it comes."

"This well-attended event discussed what more could be done to

"Clearly it underlined the opportunity that Kelvin is for the city and region for businesses that are here and could be here in the future.

"The people in attendance were pleased that it gave them a better handle on how the Kelvin link could be used for greater future business creation and performance.

"People were also saying that there needs to be more information sessions like this for local business interests.

"However, there is still a basic question of how Derry can maximise its opportunity from Kelvin. That means building a marketing platform around it and trying to secure a data centre near the telehouse.
