Mr Durkan said:
"I welcome this ambitious new plan, particularly the level of investment in Derry which is proposed.
"Whilst we need to see city-wide development, when positive proposals and developments occur we must welcome them.
"If we are going to bring increasing numbers of tourists to our city we need to have an excellent retail experience as well as cultural experience.
"People should not get too carried away that this will happen overnight or indeed by next Christmas. As the Foyleside management have signalled, many building blocks will have to be laid in terms of land acquisition, planning and other matters before we see cranes along the river."
