Durkan welcomes special ‘Monetizing Kelvin’ event

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has welcomed today’s special live “Monetizing Kelvin” event linking the Magee campus of the University of Ulster with the NI Science Park in Belfast to discuss how Northern Ireland can leverage Project Kelvin to create local jobs and drive wealth throughout the region.

Speaking before attending the event, Mr Durkan said:

"I very much welcome this event led by industry experts which will discuss what more can be done to realise the maximum benefits of Project Kelvin, not least in terms of local jobs.

"This event will benefit everyone involved, at a time when Derry and the North West has to work its way through this downturn and plan to capitalise on the economic recovery when it comes."

"I had written to both Ilex and Invest NI about the need to have a productive marketing plan for Derry on the back of Project Kelvin.

"I also previously discussed this need with the Chief Executive of Invest NI back in August and highlighted this at our local Strategy Board.

"Both Ilex and Invest NI wrote to me to express the hope that this event would go some way to moving things forward.
