Feehan condemns attempted hi-jack

SDLP Mayor of Newry John Feehan has condemned the assault and attempted hi-jacking of a man and his car along the Camlough Road on Monday evening

Mr Feehan said: “This was a disgusting attack on a motorist who thankfully was able to escape without suffering serious injury from his attackers. However, this could have been much more serious.

 

“I totally condemn the actions of these youths and, in sharp contrast to their behaviour, motorists stopped to help the victim and that’s to be applauded.

 

“I appeal to anyone who knows the identity of the individuals responsible to immediately tell the police. This is a serious matter and one which should not be allowed to happen again. I further hope the man is able to recover from his ordeal without due stress.”
