Gallagher: Confusion over Regulator’s water report

SDLP Regional Development Spokesperson Tommy Gallagher MLA has said that the Regulator’s report on water price control for the next three years will cause considerable confusion.

Wed 3rd February

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said: “The Regulator appears to be unclear about how water will be paid for over the next three years.

“Just like some of our political parties, the Regulator seems to have got himself tied up in knots over how we will be paying for our water from now until 2013.

“This Executive has demonstrated its intent to defer water charges for now. However, as indicated by the Finance Minister, this will mean less money for spending on key services including health, education and roads. It is by no means clear that this will remain the case until 2013.

“Therefore the assumptions made by the Regulator need very careful consideration right now. The danger is that the predictions contained in this report may be well wide of the mark should circumstances change before 2013.”
