However, Mr Gallagher warned that many small businesses and farms will be disappointed by the Agriculture Minister’s statement that there is unlikely to be any financial support given by the Executive.
He said: “The people affected by the recent floods will expect and deserve as much help and support as possible.
“I know they will be disappointed by the response so far and will be extremely concerned at recent remarks made by the Agriculture minister, who presides over the rivers agency and who said there was little hope of a flood-relief fund.
“Given that the constituency has two MLAs on the Executive they are entitled to expect better. Devolution is meant to be about providing local solutions to local problems not ignoring them.
“We have seen the Executive swing into action to help other areas such as Belfast and Omagh when they were hit by floods. The people of Fermanagh are entitled to similar treatment.
“Firms and families have found themselves in dire circumstances over the past few days. Many of these are vulnerable individuals, farmers and small businesses who will have seen a life-time’s work placed in jeopardy.
“They will have noted the effort agencies such as Roads Service have made to assist big business. We need a similar effort to support our small businesses to help them through this difficult time.”
