Gallagher: Review of patient waiting times vital

SDLP Health Spokesperson Tommy Gallagher has repeated his call for a review of the procedures relating to patient waiting times.

Speaking following the revelation that there has been a rise of over 2,500% in the number of people waiting more than nine weeks for a first appointment, the Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said:

 

“These are shocking figures which quite clearly highlight that the health service is not performing efficiently.

 

“There is growing anger among the public and taxpayers are infuriated at the rise in these delays for patients.

 

“On behalf of the SDLP, I repeat my call for a review of the procedures for hospital waiting times.

 

“People are being put through prolonged misery and distress waiting for medical appointments. This simply cannot continue and needs to be tackled immediately by the Health Minister.”
