Heading presses agencies to revamp Lisburn site

SDLP Deputy Mayor of Lisburn Councillor Brian Heading has met with the police and the DOE (Department of Environment) to push a makeover of neglected open space on the Old Golf Course Road area of Lisburn.

Wed 4th August

He said: “Open space on the Golf Course Road has been neglected by the DOE for far too long with vast amounts of rubble being dumped by their own contractors and the ground being torn up by reckless youths on quad bikes.

“It has also become a magnet for underage drinkers, particularly during evenings over the school holidays, and I have urged the police to put more officers into this area to tackle this problem.

“This site has great potential and should be developed into a safe and attractive recreational space that can be enjoyed by the local community.

“Following our meeting the DOE have agreed to erect fences and repair the site. I have also pressed them and the police to ensure that quad bikes have no access to the area whatsoever.

“It is essential that government departments, the police and public representatives work together to enhance the scarce resources that we have for the benefit of people in the Lisburn area. I look forward to the completion of this work and the development of this space.”
