Heading pushes police for tight controls on Stoneyford

SDLP Lagan Valley Westminster candidate Cllr Brian Heading has met with police in the Lisburn area urging them to stick to the terms laid down by the Parades Commission relating to the Stoneyford Parade on St Patrick’s Day.

Thu 11th March

The Lisburn Councillor said: “I raised a number of issues with the police relating to the contentious Stoneyforde Parade on St Patrick’s Day and pressed the police to enforce the determination reached by the Parades Commission.

“This includes walking no further than 50metres to and from the Assembly point at Stoneyford Orange Hall in no longer than the 15 minute time period agreed.

“I urged the police to ensure that those marching disperse quickly after the parade and that the determination by the Parades Commission is fulfilled.

”The people of Stoneyford have started to build good relations and are afraid that this parade may set their good work back.

"However the Parades Commission have made their decision and restricted the parade and I would urge the Nationalist community to rise above this by remaining calm so that
good work can continue in the area.”
