Kelly takes action to curb anti-social behaviour

SDLP South Belfast Councillor, Bernie Kelly, co-ordinated a successful Community Safety event with local residents on the lower Lisburn Road on Monday, following a rise in the levels of anti-social behaviour in the area.

Tue 12th October

Cllr Kelly said: “I was deeply concerned following an increase in complaints from constituents about anti-social behaviour in our community.

“There is a growth in the number of houses of multiple occupation in the lower Lisburn Road area and it is important that it does not become like the Holylands.

“Local residents spoke of their anxieties about street drinking, noise emanating from late night parties and burglaries.  Staff from Belfast City Council’s Community Safety Team outlined initiatives aimed at addressing the problems such as alleygating, the ‘Get Home Safe’ campaign and training employees from off licences.

“The PSNI also sought to reassure residents that they were out on the beat and dealing robustly with criminal activity in the area.

“This was the first in a series of roadshows that South Belfast SDLP is holding to allow residents to express their concerns and ensure that elected representatives, the Council and PSNI are working jointly and effectively to tackle anti-social behaviour in the community.”
