Maginness condemns attacks on election posters

SDLP North Belfast Westminster candidate Alban Maginness has condemned those responsible for ripping down his election posters in the Carnmoney Road area.

Fri 16th April

Mr Maginness said, “I was contacted this morning by a member of the public who informed me that a number of my election posters have been ripped down in the Carnmoney Road area of Glengormley. I am disappointed that some people have decided to vandalise my election posters, which are part and parcel of every election contest.

“Some people might think that tearing down posters is ‘fair game’ during an election campaign but I am saddened that there are people who would want to interfere with the democratic process. Destruction of election posters is an attack on democracy and I would call on all of the other candidates in North Belfast to denounce these actions.

“I have a long track record of working for everyone in North Belfast, from across the constituency, and would ask those behind these attacks to desist and allow all candidates to freely and fairly put across their message.”
