Maginness: SF hypocrisy exposed in BBC debate

SDLP North Belfast Assembly Candidate and Justice Spokesman Alban Maginness has branded Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness as ‘utterly hypocritical’ after he said on the BBC Leaders’ debate that he preferred an Alliance Party justice minister to a nationalist justice minister.

Wed 4th May

Mr Maginness said: "Martin McGuinness has given the game away. Sinn Fein pretended that the reason the goalposts were moved on the appointment of the justice ministry was because the DUP would not accept a nationalist. The truth is it was Sinn Fein that did not want a nationalist.

“They need to explain what they feared about a SDLP minister in the Justice Department. They also need to explain why they stopped nationalists achieving overall equality on the Executive, which we were entitled to, and instead increased the unionist membership of the Executive.

"Most of all, Martin should explain why his party is endlessly touting tribal pacts and calling for nationalists to stick together in this election, when Sinn Fein has so cynically undermined and sold out the democratic rights of nationalists in the Stormont Executive. Last night Martin McGuinness's mask slipped and his hypocrisy is there for all to see."
