McCarthy welcomes CCTV for Holylands

SDLP South Belfast Councillor Pat McCarthy has welcomed the plans for a CCTV system to be installed in the Holylands area of the city.

Thu 26th November

Cllr McCarthy, who has campaigned for surveillance to be erected in the area for a number of years said:

“This will come as a huge relief to residents of the Holylands who are sick and tired of people getting away with antisocial behaviour in the area.

“It has been proposed that 12 cameras be strategically placed throughout the Holylands and it is hoped that this state-of-the-art system will help police track those causing trouble in the area.

“The CCTV system should also make these streets safer for young women who have been the target of a number of attacks in the university area.

  1. “A tender for the provision of the cameras will close on December 11 and with a fair wind the system will be in place early in the New Year.”
