McDevitt welcomes committee decision on Belfast City Airport

SDLP South Belfast Assembly Member Conall McDevitt has welcomed the Northern Ireland Assembly Environment Committee’s decision to oppose the Environment Minister’s plans to lift the seat sale limit at Belfast City airport before a public inquiry into the runway extension takes place.

He said: “The committee has exposed a number of serious flaws in the department’s consultation process and the lack of independent noise monitoring.

“Residents across South and East Belfast will welcome the committee’s interest in this matter.

“I am calling on the Minister to show some leadership on this matter, work with the Minister for Regional Development and the rest of the Executive to bring forward a Regional Aviation Strategy which is capable of addressing the many and serious flaws which arise because we have three airports competing against each other.”
