McDonnell: Attack on pensioner ‘despicable’

SDLP South Belfast MP Dr Alasdair McDonnell has described the attack on a pensioner’s home in Finaghy Road South as ‘despicable’ and has urged people to co-operate with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Dr McDonnell said: “This was a despicable, cowardly attack on a vulnerable pensioner which will be condemned by all right thinking people.

“I want to send my best wishes for a speedy recovery to the elderly lady who was the victim of this disgusting crime.

“It is sad that in the run-up to Christmas when many people are thinking of those less well off than themselves that there are some whose minds are so consumed by their own greed that they are prepared to rob and terrorise senior members of our communities.

“It is imperative that those responsible for this thuggish crime are brought before the courts and dealt with severely as soon as possible. The PSNI and the local community must work together to create a safer community, one in which pensioners are safe in their own homes.

“Anyone who can help the police in any way with witness information should do so without delay.”
