Murphy’s oversight of Derry must be explained - Quigley

SDLP Councillor Helen Quigley has called upon Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy to extend his decision to create Controlled Parking Zones with free permit parking for residents in the Aberfoyle area of Derry City where residents have been calling for such schemes for years.

Mon 8th March

Cllr Quigley stated:
“For years I have campaigned with SDLP colleagues about the daily dangers and inconveniences faced by residents in areas of dense parking such as Aberfoyle and Rosemount.
“There have been countless meetings with Roads Service and other agencies – and many officials have done their best within the existing rules to reach a solution.
“However, the Minister in charge of their service has really shown himself to care very little about what goes on beyond the Newry to Belfast road.
“It is simply not good enough for him to say that he will review the problems in areas like Aberfoyle after some other schemes are up and running now for years.
“Conor Murphy is guilty of blatant disregard against Derry and ignorance of the needs of its citizens.
“The number one priority for the Northern Ireland Executive is the economy and therefore the Minister should give due consideration to the effects of university expansion and its potential for Derry.
“Indeed, he should not be doing anything which would hinder the development of Magee.”
