He said: “The terrible tragedy in Castlerock last month, in which two young men lost their lives, brought the dangers of carbon monoxide to our attention in a very powerful way.
“We need to have assurances that the current building regulations are satisfactory in relation to the installation of equipment which may release carbon monoxide and we must also consider whether or not there should be compulsory installation of carbon monoxide detectors.
“It is essential that lessons are learned from this awful incident so that the risk of any further lives being lost due to carbon monoxide poisoning is significantly reduced.”
