Quigley calls for increased PSNI presence following Derry vehicle attacks

SDLP Derry City Council Group Leader Cllr Helen Quigley has called on the PSNI to increase their presence in the Rosemount area of Derry following a series of attacks on vehicles – the latest of which saw the burning of a lorry at the weekend.

Wed 25th August

She said: “There have been a number of vehicles attacked in the Rosemount area in recent weeks culminating in the burning a lorry at the weekend.

“These have included both private and commercial vehicles which have been hijacked and destroyed.

“This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and those anti-social and sinister elements responsible have shown a blatant disregard for public safety.

“Their reckless and callous actions are hurting local businesses who are both employers of and suppliers to our community. As a result many small businesses are facing additional financial pressure having to replace vehicles in this difficult economic climate.

“Like the majority of residents in Rosemount I am sickened and disgusted by these attacks which must end.

“I would ask residents to be vigilant and call on the PSNI to increase their profile and presence in the area as confidence boosting measure.”
