The Area Plan will expire at the end of year and is the blue print for the state of planning for the City and including the development of housing, retail, commercial, industrial and leisure facilities in Derry.
Cllr Quigley has now called for an urgent meeting to ensure the next area plan is properly managed and resourced.
She said: "The existing Area Plan expires at the end of this year. This is a time of unprecedented change in the City. We will be City of Culture in 2013. At present, we have a Retail Strategy, a Tourism Strategy, a riverside Masterplan and we are about to go out to public consultation on the Draft Regeneration Plan.
“All of these projects need to be strategically placed within the context of a 10-year Area Plan. But many of us are worried about the prospect of massive cuts in the planning service.
“I would like to see Environment Minister Edwin Poots ensure the local Planning Service Office is properly resourced as befits a City undergoing widespread transformation. In light of City of Culture designation - and its support from the entire Northern Ireland Executive - I expect the Northern Ireland Executive to honour their commitment to this City and region.
“I am therefore calling for an urgent meeting of the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the next Area Plan is properly managed and resourced. I am also writing to a number of Ministers about their plans for the City in light of City of Culture and the Regeneration Plan."
