Quigley: Duncreggan works needn’t cause undue disruption

SDLP Northlands councillor Helen Quigley has said sewerage works by Northern Ireland Water on Duncreggan Road commencing this week should have been carried out at the beginning of the summer and has called on Roads Service to ensure that a minimal amount of disruption is caused on the city thoroughfare.

She said: “This work should have commenced at the beginning of the summer holidays, not at the end of the summer when the school runs are increasing the traffic flow on this busy arterial route.

 

“I acknowledge that Road Service has put in place traffic flow measures but I further call on them to monitor and ensure that this main thoroughfare to the city is not unduly congested at peak times.

 

“We don’t want to see disruption to the local business community who are trading during difficult times as it is. This is a major piece of work and will continue for seven weeks and, although the work should have been completed at the beginning of the summer we want to ensure that the best measures are in place to handle any disruption caused.”
