The news comes as a tribunal rules that the administrators brought in to oversee the ailing franchise did not consult properly with unions before making redundancies.
The Foyle MLA said: “This is great news for so many Woolworths workers, including many in the North of Ireland, who paid the price for corporate failings and I look forward to hearing of them being paid what they’re owed.
“I would also like to thank those Usdaw officials who gave of their all to see this tribunal through to such a positive conclusion.
“When the last Woolworths store closed three years ago, there was a very great and understandable sense of anger felt by the workforce who found themselves unemployed through no fault of their own – now, at least some justice has been done.”
