Ritchie delivers for West Belfast

SDLP West Belfast MLA Alex Attwood MLA and Upper Falls Councillor Tim Attwood have warmly welcomed the announcement by SDLP Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie that she is to grant £25million for the redevelopment of the former Bass Brewery site in West Belfast.

Thu 10th December

The Glen Road site will be transformed to create 166 new homes in a flagship mixed use regeneration scheme by Clanmil Housing.

Alex Attwood MLA said: "This announcement that 166 homes are to be built on the old Bass site on the Glen Road is major boost for West Belfast.

“The whole community is excited by this development, as it will provide a substantial number of new family homes, especially given the significant number of families in West Belfast who are on the waiting list and in housing stress."

Cllr Tim Attwood added: "SDLP Minister Margaret Ritchie and DSD are delivering for West Belfast. She has announced in recent weeks her plans to establish a reference group to oversee the development of a regeneration proposal for lands adjacent to the Glen Road and Monagh Bypass. This could lead to 900 jobs and 1,400 new homes in the area.

“This decision to transform the Bass Ireland site is the first step in building a new neighbourhood along the Glen Road."
