SDLP Dobbins: Gleneagles and Mount Pleasant residents at wits’ end

SDLP Shantallow representative Angela Dobbins has received complaints from residents in Gleneagles and Mount Pleasant who live near the city’s nature walk whose area is being destroyed by young people drinking and causing a nuisance.

Tue 29th March

She said: “One resident told me that St Patrick’s night was just awful. The noise went on until the early hours. The next day when he went down the walkway behind his house it was very evident what went on the night before. This weekend was even worse there were over a hundred young people drinking and carrying on. It is making him ill thinking of what the longer nights will hold in store for them.

“Anti-social behavior undermines the fabric of our society. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own community and it is unacceptable for people to dread the summer months and brighter nights. Neither is it acceptable for people to refrain from using public walks and parks for fear of intimidation and harassment. Anti-social behavior, in whatever guise, is not acceptable and we must all take responsibility to help the more vulnerable in our community.”
