SDLP helps secure changing facilities in North Belfast

North Belfast Councillor Nichola Mallon said she is delighted that “after decades of delay” temporary changing facilities are to be provided at Cliftonville Playing Fields.

Fri 2nd April

The SDLP voted for the temporary changing rooms at North Belfast’s only GAA pitch last night at the monthly Belfast City Council meeting.

Cllr Mallon said: “The SDLP fully supports the development of facilities at Cliftonville Playing Fields.

“There is without doubt, a desperate need for sporting facilities in North Belfast and in particular GAA facilities.

“As a Council we are responsible for addressing the under provision of services and facilities. We are elected to take decisions which meet the needs of the people in this city, particularly those most in need.

“This decision tonight is about fulfilling this responsibility.

“The SDLP is working within the Council to urgently bring forward the Pitches Strategy so we can comprehensively address the shortage of sporting facilities right across this city”.

SDLP Council Group Leader Cllr Pat Convery also called on the Department of Education and the Minister Caitríona Ruane to take swift action to progress the Bunscoil Bheann Mhadigann project.

“The sooner the Education Minister gets started on development of the bunscoil, the sooner a state of the art pitch and facilities can be provided at the Cliftonville Playing Fields”.
