SDLP sympathy to Norwegian Labour Party

SDLP International Secretary Claire Hanna has said that the SDLP stands in solidarity with its sister party, the Norwegian Labour Party, its members and the people of Norway following violent attacks today.

Councillor Hanna added: "In addition to the large blast in Oslo I'm horrified to hear reports of a shooting at the Youth Summer Camp of the Norwegian Labour Party, a sister party of the SDLP.
 
“The extent of casualties is not clear but some deaths have been confirmed.
 
“They are an assault on democracy itself and young people attempting to engage with democratic processes and highlight the vast gulf that exists between open engagement and the blind hatred of terrorism.
 
“Our thoughts are with the surviving victims and the many grieving families.”
