Friday 2nd July 2010 SDLP South Belfast MLA Conall McDevitt MLA has said that the bonfire at the entrance to the City Hospital is a danger and should be moved immediately.
Monday 5th July 2010 SDLP environment spokesperson John Dallat believes tyre-fitting companies should be legally forced to brand worn tyres, to identify them if they then turn up on bonfires during the summer months. This would mean any old and used tyres taken off vehicles could be traced to their source.
Thursday 2nd September 2010 SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns has described the £3.7 million cost of mobilising fire crews in the last five years to deal with 1352 incidents at bonfires sites in the lead up to the eleventh of July as ‘ridiculous’.
Thursday 18th November 2010 SDLP Chair of Belfast DPP, Tim Attwood, has revealed that over £1.1m was spent by the PSNI policing parades in Belfast during July 11-14 this year with a further £52,000 spent policing bonfires over the July 12th period.
