Durkan: Cruise visitors set to boost Derry economy

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has said he is delighted at the significant increase in the number of cruise liner passengers who will be visiting Derry in 2015 – up from just under 3,000 in 2014 to 11,254 passengers expected to visit North West shores this year. The significant rise in cruise visitors is estimated to be worth £720,000 to the local economy.

Dallat: DOJ must be transparent with consultancy expenses

SDLP MLA and member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), John Dallat has called on the Department of Justice to disclose the names of the consultancy firms that provided financial services in the last five years. The Department of Justice paid out £2.73 million pounds but have told the vice-chair of PAC John Dallat ‘that in line with DOJ policy’ they are withholding the names of the firms that received a considerable £2.73 million.

Dallat: DOJ spend thousands on Courthouse due for closure

SDLP East Derry MLA John Dallat has expressed his incredulity at the lack of forward planning by the Department of Justice. Over the last five years DOJ has spent £261,802 on maintenance and repairs of Limavady Courthouse which they have now scheduled for closure. The information was disclosed in a response to a written question by Mr Dallat who has opposed the plan to close the courthouse.
